CBAA Conference & Awards

The CBAA Conference is the flagship event on the community broadcasting calendar. In 2024, we brought record numbers of broadcasters and sector partners together on the Gold Coast to learn, connect and celebrate.

International expert Valerie Geller shared practical insights on compelling communication, while Shane Fitzsimmons, former NSW Rural Fire Service Commissioner, delivered a powerful address on community resilience and emergency broadcasting. Workshops and sessions provided actionable takeaways, and delegates praised the networking and sense of community.

Half a century of local voices shaping Australia’s media

In 2024 the sector celebrated 50 years of community broadcasting in Australia. This milestone was recognised through national events, stories and media coverage, highlighting the vital role stations have played in shaping local identity, supporting diversity and giving voice to communities over half a century. Coverage across ABC, RadioInfo and The Wire underscored the sector’s cultural significance and enduring relevance.

A better online experience

We relaunched the CBAA website with a modern design, improved navigation, integrated Online Community access, and stronger content for members and the public.

Codes of Practice 2025

Rolling out the new Codes of Practice to busy stations was a challenge. All station staff, broadcasters and volunteers need to comply with the new Codes of Practice. To make it as easy as possible for stations to get started, we built a free online learning module for all stations to access, which commenced on 15 April and has resulted in over 1400 enrolments. We sent letters and 5 Codes booklets to every licensee, and used email and social media to get the word out. Our new landing page links each of the ten Codes directly to additional guidance and practical resources. As of 30 June, the Codes page has seen nearly 3k views.
